Wine Advocate: Freude bei MORGANTE

"Italy, Sicily: A Generational Change" – Monica Larner

MORGANTE: Don Antonio Nero d’Avola Riserva 2013 – 93 points

“Carmelo Morgante makes a fine Nero d'Avola. The 2013 Sicilia Nero d'Avola Don Antonio is one of his best creations so far. The wine is dark and impenetrable and loaded tight with bold fruit intensity. It shows a careful measure of heft and power that leaves a deep impression but that doesn’t feel too heavy or thick. Despite its big bones, the wine maintains its grace and elegance. Deep concentration - driven by oak flavors of spice and chocolate - push the wine forward over the palate.”

MORGANTE: Nero d’Avola Sicilia 2014 – 88 points

“This is an excellent value buy. The 2014 Sicilia Nero d'Avola delivers a pure and clean expression of the grape that is free of any extra bells or whistles. The wine focuses on those characteristic aromas of bramble, wild berry, black olive, toasted pistachio nut and white fennel that you get with Nero d'Avola in its purest form. This grape underlines the wild side of this indigenous variety.”

MORGANTE: Bianco di Morgante Sicilia 2015 – 87 points

“The 2015 Bianco di Morgante is Nero d'Avola made off the skins as a white wine. The wine's appearance is almost totally transparent and void of color. The bouquet opens to light tones of peach and citrus. It is heavily defined by drying mineral tones as well. The mouthfeel is thin, lean and crisp. Some 30,000 bottles were made.”
